Welcome to Oregon Jump$tart!
Financial education and confidence improve the lives of everyone! Get involved!
Oregon is an amazing place to live, and work, and learn, and to play.
We’re excited about helping every Oregonian to be more financially secure and confident, no matter what they do or where they call home. Thank you for your interest in financial empowerment and education in Oregon. There’s a lot of good things happening, and we can use your help!
The Oregon Jump$tart Coalition’s mission is to promote and increase financial literacy for all Oregonians. We work alongside nonprofits, financial institutions, government agencies and individuals dedicated to providing financial education throughout Oregon.
Thanks to a new state law, Oregon high school students will be guaranteed access to a personal finance class starting in 2027. The Oregon Jump$tart Coalition is part of the collaboration that is elevating and advancing financial education, and that includes helping to ensure our educators are equipped to teach these important new standards.
Stay tuned for more details, as the Oregon Department of Education develops the curriculum standards for this new required class.
Oregon Jump$tart also works in partnership with the Financial Empowerment Initiative at the Oregon State Treasury, which provides communications and administrative support to bolter financial education efforts statewide.
As a result of these collaborative efforts, Oregonians are benefitting from:
- A shared, statewide financial wellness resource hub via the 211info hotline and information system. Are you or anybody you know looking for local resources? Please check it out! Are you affiliated with a nonprofit and want to be included in the database? It’s free and easy! Ask us how!
- Better visibility including a shared statewide newsletter, Oregon Financial Empowerment Quarterly, with financial literacy-connected news and events of interest from across the state. Please keep us posted about any news you have to share!
- More coordination between the Oregon government, nonprofit, financial sector, and education institutions that are advancing consumer protection, financial capacity and financial confidence. The Oregon Financial Empowerment Advisory Team meets quarterly and meetings are open to the public.
- An opportunity to earn $50 to open an Oregon College Savings Plan account by taking a financial education module through Oregon-based Financial Beginnings. Children with these accounts – no matter what the balance is – get the message that people believe in them and their potential. They’re more than twice as likely to enroll in higher education and job training programs and are three times more likely to complete them.
Thank you for your interest! Oregon is better because of you! We look forward to hearing from you!
Everybody deserves the opportunity to get ahead. Our collective focus on financial empowerment is improving Oregonians’ quality of life, today and tomorrow. — Oregon State Treasurer Tobias Read
